Thomas Tuchel said he believes England was directly upset at Euro 2024 because the team played a “fear of a defeat” and wasn’t “hunger” to win.
Despite reaching the final in Berlin, which lost to Spain, the England team Gareth Southgate has been criticized for their inspiration and lack of attacking threats in a race that have been nominated for the win.
At a press conference on Thursday about an interview with ITV, he said he felt that the team was fighting with the pressures on the euro and their levels had problems, and Tuchel reduced his opinion.
“It’s just my feeling. It was my feedback and at first I felt only in front of TV, too much before I know I might be responsible,” Tuchel told a news conference Thursday.
“That’s my feeling. I think it’s very clear and I don’t know how to present it in other words, and I think it should be the opposite.
“I want to play with arousal, hunger and desire to succeed. And the chance of failure is part of that, especially in football, but we want to implement this togetherness and happiness that everyone feels safe to express themselves and give their best.
“We’re playing with hunger and happiness for winning, not with fear of defeat. Everything can happen in football, we know this, but paying attention to winning more than a number of slaps in the opposite box, more attacks, more than high balls.
Tuchel will take care of his debut in England on Friday when the three lions host Albania at Wembley to launch a 2026 World Cup qualifier and the German coach admitted he feels some nerves before the game.
“I just hope to see so much hope that I see what I see every day and you can change it to the stadium because what I saw in the last days was amazing and just a joy to watch and was part of that day.
“Therefore, I hope we can move this energy, this fire and in this hunger to tomorrow. And then, I mean surprising.
