
“Since we had Craig, David Marshall and Alan McGregor, we didn’t have the same quality that came through it.
“It’s something we had to take a few years ago. Maybe it’s a surveillance. We had three goalkeepers who had a quality that played at the same time and you think ‘That will never end.
Gordon 81 Cappe has made his debut in 2004, while Marshall has played 47 times and McGregor has lost his head after 42 appearances.
“We have a younger product and you don’t know how to move forward,” Clark said.
“You can say ‘We haven’t got anything’, then suddenly about 18, 19, 20 years old may get a few minutes on the pitch and have a better chance of playing more.
“In March, he told coaches of 17, 19 and 21 to try to choose four goalkeepers, so you look more and put them in their peers.
In the recent Scotland goalkeepers under the age of 21, Liam McFarlin and Royride Adams are working on on loan from Este Phiyef and Celtic Harts on loans from all of them this season.
Rangers’ Luis Bodenaka has made four appearances for Green Morton and eight for Partak Testle before he lost his place with David Michel, 35.
Moura Johnson made 13 appearances for the Eridreonians and was limited for only one minute with the Queen in the second half of the season.
“The young people need to play,” Clark added. “Many more in squads are kept to sit on the bench. They work with good people and learn good habits but only in training.
“We may be able to find a way to bring these young goalkeepers to the clubs in the first round, the second round, the tournament at the previous age when they play and are good,” he said.
“Obviously, if you are a manager and take a young goalkeeper and he will throw a couple into the network, you will put an more experienced goalkeeper in the network,” he said.
“The boys need a chance and when they have the opportunity, they must take it. If they don’t, the manager doesn’t play with them.
