Paris Saint-Germain are enjoying a season to remember – but know that one of the biggest threats to achieve their final dream can be a player who is currently on his books.
Financially host Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday, facing an unusual horizon against one of their players in Marco Asensio.
The 29-year-old, who joined the villa from Paris Saint-Germain in January, has scored eight goals and one assist in 11 appearances for Vilanes.
Asensio’s form has helped Unai Emery’s players to enjoy a winner of seven games, which won the FA Cup in the semi-finals and the Champions League in the past eight years, and is on the fierce of four key players in the Premier League.
But Paris Saint-Germain are flying themselves and can still end it with four cups.
It was still unbeaten in their title win, and after winning the French supercapage, Luis Enrique is also in the May Copen final and dream of winning the Champions League for the first time.
Paris Saint-Germain president is happy with his confidence that Asensio has found a stage to demonstrate his talent and welcomed his return from Paris.
“I’m very happy to be able to play,” said Enrique, who was also coach of the former Real Madrid.
“He didn’t get it when he wanted to go here and he had the opportunity to go to Birmingham.
“I’ve shared a lot with him with him. He came to the World Cup with me and it was very important for us last season and at the beginning of this season,” he said. He is a senior player.
But are Paris Saint-Germain’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain, especially when he was part of Real Madrid, who won three Champions League champions?
“He has really done a lot of work, and whenever he touches the ball, he has tried to the team,” said Villa’s friend Yui Telemans.
“He’s first camera at Villa Park (from the FA Cup winning the FA Cup against Tottenham) was shining, he just went through resistance. He takes responsibility with the ball.
“When you look at it, you don’t think he’s tireless because he’s a ball player, but he’s really good outside the ball and that’s what we need from every player,” Ronaldo said.
