It’s easy to see why Norfolk Steit is a top 16 candidate for Friday’s NCAA. Just don’t try not to explain the cause of such a big spread to Robert Jones, Norfolk Statet coach.
Jones told a news conference Thursday that “a little angry” Florida is 28.5 points and nominated for Spartacus. Gaiters won the SEC to win the national title after all four of their four-season defeats came to the rivals who played the NCAA.

Norfolk Stet (24-10) won both the ordinary season and Meac to win the conference’s automatic competition.
“I think I’ll train better for myself when I get angry, and I’m a little angry with the way it spreads and that’s like that,” Jones said.
“I know Florida is really good, and they are doing a great program. They have got great players, but are we so bad that they are like that?
“Often at the Meac conference, we are always hunting. We are not hunters, but outside the conference, we are hunting. Hence we try to prove ourselves.
“Therefore, I think we have a different level of focus and density we bring. Hence, why have we competed well against some of the country’s best teams this year?
“I think the boys are worried about the challenge tomorrow. Nobody is afraid of the dressing room. Nobody is afraid of the dressing room. We are very happy with the challenge to play the University of Florida.
The spread between the two teams is not even the biggest stage. Oburne was 32.5 points clear of Alabama Statite on Thursday and Duck on Friday against Mount St. Mary.
A win of Norfolk state will be historic on Friday. Only two seeds number one — Virginia in 2018 and Purdo in 2023 — lost in the first round. It also adds to the NCAA study at the school.
In 2012, Norfolk St. The No. 2 of Missouri was relegated as the number 15 seeds. It was the school’s first success in a team that was the best player of the AP at the AP 25.
The team was led by coach Anthony Evans and he went to take it in Florida International after the next season. Evans replaced Jones, who had succeeded for six or more seasons during his presidency.
But Spartacus have not won a NCAA’s victory in Missouri. And they did not see the seeds in the number 16. Norfolk Stet finished 16th in 2021 and 2022, but lost 43 points and 36 in Baylor.
Can Norfolk at least keep Friday’s game much closer to the two? If they do, some anger may have played a role.
