Manchester City say Erling Haaland’s injury shouldn’t be the end of the season

Erling Holland is set to play on the margin with an ankle injury on Sunday against Bournemouth, but Manchester City are hopeful that the striker can play again this season and play at the FIFA World Cup.

Holland left the Vitalite Stadium and was wearing a protective shoe after wounding 2-1 ankle in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Norwegian international equalized City’s goal before it exploded in the 60th minute. Omar Marmosh’s replacement scored the lead and the FA Cup semi-finals against Nutingam Forest on April 26.

The 24-year-old will be tested more, but City are sure he will play again this season.

“Manchester City can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered a hamstring injury in his leftk ankle,” a statement said Monday.

“Erling took the preliminary examinations in Manchester on Monday morning and is now looking for a specialist consultant to verify the extent of the injury.

“The assessment continues to ensure a complete prediction. The expectation is that Erling will be appropriate on time to play more of this season, including the FIFA World Cup this summer.

Holland, who has scored 30 goals in 40 appearances this season, is expected to feature on Sunday for the Manchester City derby at the Etihad Stadium and his trip to Old Trafford for the Manchester derby.

Pep Guardiola has nine Premier League games left as they are fighting to take first place. City are in fifth place, one point behind Chelsea and one ahead of Newcastle United.

They will start their World Cup campaign against Morocco on June
