Newcastle coach Edie Hoo says midfielder Jolinton is unlikely to play again this season with a knee injury.
While there are four games left to play, his absence could be a big blow to Newcastle in the Champions League.
MAGPES are currently third in the Premier League, but only two points out Nottingham Forest are sixth from sixth.
The 28-year-old beat Ipsuic 3-0 in last week’s game and Hoo said he had returned home.
“You’ll never refuse with Joe,” Hoo said. “He’s a lot of motivation to try and come back.
“We were looking for experts’ opinions, and the opinion was that nothing serious, but it needed a stage of rest, so it is now in Brazil.
“We are waiting and we will see that we can return it before the end of the season, but it is likely that it is not possible.
Luis Miley, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock are among the players who are competing and replaced by Jolinton in midfield for their trip to Brighton on Saturday.
