
China has said it has been “according to the law” in recent weeks over the execution of four Canadians.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melania Jolie told reporters in Ottawa on Wednesday that China violated apologies for softness.
“We strongly condemn the executions against the Canadians in China,” Jolie said.
He said he could not talk about the details because the families of the victims asked for privacy.
But Beijing on Thursday suggested that the Canadians were convicted of drug crimes. “Distribute crime is a common responsibility for all countries,” State Department spokesman Maoning said.
“China will protect the legitimate rights of the relevant parties and the rights of the Canadian consulates, in accordance with the law.
Beijing also defended the executions for the Globe and the Canadian Post.
“The crime is a violent crime of a violent crime that is known around the world as a great loss to society,” the embassy said.
“China has always imposed severe punishment for drug-related crimes and maintains a ‘zero tolerance”s position against drugs.
Statistics of the state
Jolie said she and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who left the post last week, asked China for softness.
China classifies the death penalty as the state’s secrets, although rights groups, including Amnesty International, believe thousands of people are executed every year in the country.
Beijing said this week a former Chinese engineer was recently sentenced to death for leaking state secrets to foreign authorities.
The arrest of China’s top relations chief in December 2018 and the arrest of Beijing’s two Canadian revenge on Beijing on charges of espionage of communications.
Relationships have been in trouble with Chinese interference in the Canadian elections in 2019 and 2021.
In 2023, Jolie expelled a Chinese diplomat accused of targeting a Canadian opposition politician criticizing the ruling Communist Party and his family.
Ottawa has also criticized Hong Kong’s security suppression and China’s treatment of his Uighur Muslim minority.
