Ipswich followed the victory with two points from 10 games, just again at Bournemouth on April 2 before being beaten at Wolves at home on Saturday, leaving Keyran McCain on the verge of descending.
“I’m still happy here after taking the lead last season,” McCain said after last season.
“This year, it was always a challenge that it would have been one of the reasons I wanted to stay.
“I felt the right thing, as I said several times, the club has a bright future in many different ways,” he said.
“This is a high-level club, regardless of the possibility – you can say it’s a possible step – this year. There is still a great potential to take some big steps in the next few years, so I’m very happy to be part of that.

McCain has said Liam Delap, the club’s links to the clubs, including Chelsea, has taken a “realely kick” against Wolves and has missed training this week.
Worst striker Omar Hachinsson has missed his last two games and is still doubtful, while Wis Burnzy Wece Bern, Chidos Ogeni, Samuel Szesmodix and Arijanet Morich are all available for a long time.
