Brighton coach Fabyen Horseler has supported his team-mates’ criticism of his team-mates and has said he wants to avoid the culture of “happiness-cleop” at the club.
The striker said Brighton missed 4-2 against Brentford at the end of last week.
“We built a place and we have to lie in it. That’s not enough,” Welbeck said.
The defeat, the third player in his last five games, will leave Cegels 10th in the Premier League and outside the squad.
“He’s a Welbeck who has been here for a long time. He scores a lot of goals, which makes a lot of effort for the club to make sure he is the best for the club and the best for his team-mates,” he said.
“What I always ask for is a culture that is not happy.
“We are demanding a culture that we can be honest with each other, which we can talk about our thoughts together, which we can give each other a critical feedback.
“If you’re just positive and just touching your team’s friends, I’m sure no one will be better. So that’s the main thing I’m asking for at this club and in this environment.
