Arsenal have appointed Andrea Berta as new sporting director on Sunday.
Berta takes a permanent role in the place of Idu Gasper, who resigned in November and has been in the six months of horticulture leave.
“I’m very happy to have joined Arsenal in a long time,” Berta said in a statement.
“I have looked at the way Arsenal have developed in recent years and I am impressed with the efforts to recruit the club as a major force in European football with a passionate follower around the world,” he said.
“The club has a great value and a rich history, and I am happily waiting for me to participate in a successful future with a big team,” he said.
“I can’t wait until I start in my new role and I’m really happy to have my first game with our supporters at the Emirates Stadium.
Idu Jason, deputy director of the club’s interim sporting, after leaving and competing for the permanent position.
Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashurs and former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Rossik and Roberto Olab, who leave Real Sociedad at the end of the season, were considered.
“Anyone who knows football is an interesting person,” Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kronki said. He has a lot of information about the game, a big background, a strong network and an unsatisfied desire to create the winning team.
“Andrey will be a big addition to our club. He understands our values and what we stand for and we have no doubt that it will help us push us and the next steps in our efforts to win a big cup.
“We conducted a detailed process of our employment and we were impressed with the level of all other candidates, but it was Andrea’s experience and the success he enjoyed.
“We are really waiting for us to work and welcome him to the Arsenal family.
Berta has spent 12 years at Atletico Madrid and has helped the club play with Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
Under his surveillance, Atletico won two La Liga titles, the Del Rey, the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup.
