Toronto president Mark Shapiro is optimistic and the team could replace Vladimir Girero Jr. 1-1-2013 squad for the free players when his current deal expires this season.

“I think we are signing him. I think we will continue,” Shapiro told reporters Thursday. “We have such a clear organization of the desired results.

“Valad wants to play like the Toronto Blue. We want to end his career in a blue-dress and a real inheritance player for Toronto Blue. It’s a very good place to start.

He referred to Shapiro’s remarks, and Gerero echoed on Thursday, which he would also remain “optimistic.

“I’ve always felt good about everything,” Gerrero told reporters. “I’m good with that. I just go to work very hard and be optimistic.

“… I leave that to my agents to work with him. If something is there, they will continue to work with him.

Earlier this month, Gerrero told ESPN that the last proposal to extend the contract offered to his team before the February 17 deadline had fallen less than $600 million, and reports suggest that both sides are about $50 million.

Shapiro described the reports as “very easier on the basis of only part of the information.

Gerrero, 26, had a date for February 17 to reach an extension of the deal. Outside the season, clubs have refrained from refereeing as a one-year contract for $28.5 million.

Gerrero, who won $19.9 million in 2024, overturned in the fourth consecutive season, won the second silver Sloger Award and sixth in the MVP vote. He recorded 323 by .396 on the base, .544 slaping, 30 Homer and 103 RBI in 159 games.

Through the six seasons with Blue Club, Gerrero has a .288/.363/500 with 160 Homer and 507 RBI in 819 appearances.

Shapiro would like to be what he called a inheritance player, spending his entire career with one team. But Shapiro focused the importance of creating a big team to keep a star.

“Let me be clear. In my time, there was only one player in the big league with a business case that compensates for the value of his contract. One player. Only one,” Shapiro said. “In any other case, I say that the only thing that actually sells tickets is to win hundreds of thousands of people. There are players who have magnetic characters, such as Vlade, who win and really can help, but fans don’t come to see big players in losing teams.
