Iceland volcano after the blue lake evacuated

A volcano has erupted on the Rikjans Peninsula in southwestern Iceland, after a nearby town and a blue Lagoni army, a popular tourist destination.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office said the blast began around 09.45 local time (10:45 BST) only in the north of the small town of Greendavik. Less than an hour later, the crack in the ground was 700 meters (2,296 feet) wide and continued to grow.

The blast came after hundreds of earthquakes hit the Sundhnúks Crater Row area around 06:30 local time.

Both Greendavik and the Blue Lake were previously ordered to evacuate the explosion. Roads that walk inside and outside the town have remained closed, but flights are not affected at the moment.

It will be closed until Tuesday on its website until Tuesday.

Until 11:20, the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) said the original rift has extended south and a new crack has been opened.

Officials asked anyone to stay in Greendavik. Iceland’s media reported that several people had previously refused to implement the evacuation order on Tuesday.

“Only 40 houses have been occupied by residents after previous volcanic activities,” the police chief Ofar Luavixson told local media.

Most of the 4,000 residents of GreenDavik were evacuated forever in November 2023, before the blasts in December 2023, January 2014 and March

The length of the Magma, which appeared on Tuesday under the Cratter series, is about 11 km (6.8 miles) – the longest measured since November 11, 2023.

Based on the current wind, the gas pollution from the explosion is heading northeast to the capital area.

Since 2021, several explosions have occurred on the Rickins Peninsula.

The last time the peninsula had volcanoes was 800 years ago – and the blasts continued for decades.

Iceland has 33 active volcanoes and sits on something known as the central Atlantic scent, the boundary between two of the largest tektone plates on the planet.
