Commerce Secretary Jonathan Rynolds says Britain is the best place to abolish trade taxes that are scheduled to be imposed by President Donald Trump.
Britain is expected to spark new US tariffs on Wednesday when Trump plans to lift new taxes on US goods imported.
Renolds said he expects all countries to be affected by taxes, despite his efforts to negotiate a preliminary amnesty in Britain.
But the commercial minister said the continued negotiations with the Trump administration meant that Britain was in the “best position of any country” to be reversed.
“Some of them will come down to the United States and do they want to do that,” Reinolds told the BBC.
“I believe we can’t not only reach a place where we avoid taxes on each other, but we will strengthen that relationship.
The taxes are taxes on goods imported to the United States.
At the end of the week, Trump proposed that taxes pay all countries, not just those who have the biggest trade imbalance with the United States.
The prime minister’s official spokesman said talks on an economic agreement between the two countries were “constructive” to avoid customs duties, but rejected revenge if imposed on Britain.
