FIFA’s plans for a single match between Masiaca and Los Angeles have been drawn up to determine a Lyon squad at the 2025 World Cup.
Lyon were knocked out of the World Cup on March 23 when FIFA decided to participate in violating competition rules that prevent two clubs from participating in the tournament. Lyon is owned by Groupo Patuka, which also owns a friend of the Liga MX.
“According to Article 10, paragraph 4 of the 2025 World Cup rules, FIFA has determined that Lyon will be removed from the company, as well as the club as a replacement that will be announced on time,” FIFA said in a statement.
Plans for the Play-off games will be motioned if Lyon loses his appeal to the sporting court for sports (CAS) to return to the club’s World Cup.
Cass has announced that a meeting will be held on April 23 in Madrid in Spain for both Lyon and Costa Rick of Laga Deportiva Al-Ajelense to offer their arguments. Al-Ajelenses initially submitted the complaint to the CAS for violating Lyon’s participation in FIFA rules and noticing that they should take a place in the tournament instead.
Now, both clubs have remained until April 2 to collect legal documents before they present the arguments on 23 May. An alternative plan will be announced so that any legal case is not resolved.
FIFA has some options for an alternative team. He could simply walk with Laffc, who finished second in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League. Or FIFA could have used the top team in the Concacaf, which is not in the tournament, which is the United States. There were some priorities for the second path, given that the UEFA squad is how Red Bull Salzburg has reached the World Cup since Real Madrid have won two of their previous Champions League titles.
