
Zoy Atkin has won the second surprising run to receive semi-friends’ gold at the Fristeel World and Snords in Switzerland.
The 22-year-old, born in the United States, went down at the end of his attempt to open it in Ingaden, but impressed the judges when pressure was on 93.50 points.
He finished the medal in the world, then in his previous two tournaments.
Atkin, who won 0.5 of China’s Lee Fangoi beats in China, while Cassey Sharp, Canadian claimed bronze for 88.00.
“After I won a third and second, I was like this season, ‘You know what, I want to go to gold’.
“So I’ve done a lot of work this season. I tried to put my new trick there. I had a lot of mental blocs, so I’m really proud to have worked through it.
“Then I can sit in my second running, with all the pressure on it, and become the hero of the world.
The victory scored a successful season for Atkin, who described the World Cup general title with Lee in the women’s halves.
